Lady Bulldogs already
clinch a playoff spot
With three games still left on the schedule, the McGregor
Lady Bulldogs have already clinched a playoff spot.
On Tuesday, McGregor was set to play Moody there. On Friday, they
will host Bruceville-Eddy in the final home game, and next Tuesday
they end the regular season at Clifton. The varsity girls’ games
start at 6:15 p.m.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Crawford 62-37 at Pirate
gymnasium. McGregor led 14-7 in the first, increased their lead to
31-13 by the halftime break, and went into the fourth quarter ahead
47-24.

The Lady Bulldogs notched another hard earned victory Friday night
at home against Hamilton by a score of 65-43. The score was much closer
than the first meeting between these two schools.
McGregor held a 17-10 lead in the first, 38-18 lead in the second,
and a 54-26 leading margin to start the final quarter. The Lady Bulldogs
only went to the line seven times, but made five of them.
Three in double figures were Sha Brown, 20; Angela Garrett, 16; and
Meghan Goff, 10. Additional points were recorded by Destiny Kelley,
six; Cylane Rogers, six; ShaQuayla Henderson, five; Tana Davis, two.
The victory assured the Lady Bulldogs a trip to the playoffs. McGregor’s
record stands at 23-6 for the season and 7-0 in district.
Coach Kimberly Johnson pointed out that four of the six losses came
against 4A and 5A teams in the Temple Tournament earlier this year.
“We’ve sealed up a playoff spot and that win Friday night
at home was big,” Coach Johnson said. “Sha and Destiny
both had great games against Crawford. They scored a total 49 of our
62 points and most of those points were scored inside the paint.”
Coach Johnson pointed out that the Lady Bulldogs had a good defensive
games against Crawford and Hamilton. She was pleased that the bench
is getting good playing time in during the second half of most of
the games.
“Hamilton played us much tougher this time around,” the
coach said. “We tried a new defense to help shut down the inside
game and it worked.”
District standings through last Friday are:
1. McGregor 7-0
2. Hamilton 5-2
3. Bruceville Eddy 4-3
4. Crawford 3-4
