Welcome to Bulldog Stadium and many more graphic displays will greet McGregor Bulldog fans this year with the addition of a new state-of-the-art scoreboard complete with 25 second clocks. Major contributor for the project was the First National Bank of McGregor. “We owe a great deal of gratitude to the people at First National for their generous contribution,” McGregor ISD Superintendent Kevin Houchin stated. “We could not have done it without their help.” Supt. Houchin pointed out that the scoreboard that was replaced lasted 30 years and it also was funded by the First National Bank. The marquee, located in the top center of the scoreboard, is actually larger than the new marquee located at the administration building on Bluebonnet Parkway. The graphics program is the same for both. Pictured in front of the scoreboard are Supt. Kevin Houchin, Mike Beard, First National Bank Chairman and CEO; David Littlewood, First National Bank president; Fritz Matthies, First National Bank Executive Vice President; McGregor Athletic Director Tim Seward, and Assistant Superintendent John Hudson.

Eight-year-old Joseph Mooney of McGregor is pictured clearing the high jump bar at the McGregor Summer Track Meet held last Thursday afternoon and evening. He placed first by clearing 3’4”. Approximately 600 athletes competed at the meet and the home side bleachers were full of spectators. The Regional meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at Temple Wildcat Stadium. Mooney is the son of Charles and Claudia Mooney of McGregor.

McGregor residents no doubt experienced low water pressure Tuesday morning as they were getting ready for the day. It was due to a major water line break on Main Street near the railroad tracks. McGregor Water crews spent the morning making necessary repairs, and had the job completed by noon. There have been a couple of other water line breaks in the past week along Main Street. City officials said the breaks are due to built up pressure in the lines due to the the city’s main water tower being down for repairs. The city’s other pumps are working harder to maintain even pressure to prevent the breaks. City crews are constantly monitoring the system to prevent the breaks. The City did issue a water boil notice for 24 hours. Perched in this tree in the city limits of McGregor is a beautiful Rufous Hummingbird. John Sneed recently alerted the Mirror photographer that he had located a hummingbird that wasn’t real common for Central Texas. This tiny bird is normally breeds in the Northwest from California to Alaska and is known to be very aggressive around feeders. It’s length is three to four inches long, with a wing span of four inches and a weight of .07 to .18 ounces.
