Groundbreaking ceremony planned at St. Eugene’s
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 5, in front of St. Eugene Catholic Church, located at 207 N. Johnson Drive in McGregor, and all members and guests are invited to attend.
The groundbreaking is for major renovations that will start soon at the church. Father Boniface Onjefu is the priest at St. Eugene’s and Bishop Joe Vasquez from the Austin Diocese will be present to give a blessing and concluding rite at the ceremony.
Also present will be Roseanne Berger Lockhart, from West, who was present as a young girl for the groundbreaking of the present parish built in 1959.
Following the ceremony, those in attendance are invited to a reception at the hall.
Old and new pictures of the church will be displayed at the hall.
Members of the grounbreaking committee are Alan Nolan, Sophia Mendoza, Armando Aviles, Marcia Thigpen, Aleyda Dominguez, Sam Skhrak, Frank Leos, Charles Mooney, MaryEllen Maddox, and Bobby Spanos.
