Johnye Voiles
January 15, 2026
Johnye M Voiles, born on June 10, 1929, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 96.
Johnye was born in MacGregor, Texas, in the midst of the Great Depression. She grew up in a happy household with two sisters and a brother. She had a paint horse throughout her youth and rode it regularly around that small town in Central Texas.
While attending The University of Texas at Austin, she met a handsome young man from the Texas Panhandle who swept her off her feet. She and Bill Allen were married in August 1949, and after they graduated, moved to his hometown of Perryton, where he practiced law and later was in the oil business. They were blessed with two sons, Greg and Mark.
After Bill’s death in 1969, Johnye married Ted Voiles in 1972 and began a new chapter in her life. As matriarch, Johnye blended the two families together with love and grace. She and Ted continued to live in Perryton, but spent their summers in Cuchara, Colorado, where they made great friends and memories for decades. After Ted’s passing in 2000, Johnye moved to Houston to be closer to her family. She continued to spend summers in Colorado until just a few years before her death.
Johnye made a beautiful home wherever she lived. Her hospitality was legendary. Her door was always open, and behind that door was always a dog. Johnye had the biggest, brightest smile and sparkling eyes wherever she went. She was a special kind of mother and grandmother whose advice was always spot on. She loved her children, grandchildren, and family wholeheartedly. Johnye was the best neighbor and friend to so many.
She was an active member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, as well as the PEO Sisterhood.
Johnye was predeceased by her parents, Moran and Eula Meador, her two husbands, Bill Allen and Ted Voiles, and her stepson, Jeff Voiles.
She is survived by her children, Greg Allen (Nancy), Mark Allen (Mary Kay), Carol Voiles Olson (Kent), April Voiles Simpson, and by her former daughter-in-law, Carol Voiles. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cuchara Chapel, Post Office Box 796, La Veta, Colorado, 81055, or Chapelwood UMC.
A celebration of Johnye’s amazing life will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 10 am in the chapel of Chapelwood UMC, 11140 Green Bay, Houston, Texas 77024. Reception to follow.
