Dixon wins gold at state track meet

Darieus Dixon ran away with the state title in the 400-meter dash and the McGregor High School 4x400-meter relay squad pocketed a third-place medal in Friday's action at the 2022 UIL Class 3A State Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Field in Austin.

Dixon breezed to a time of 48.31 seconds in the 400. His time was more than one-half second faster than Bryan Thomas of Palacios, who was second at 48.95.

Dixon also ran the anchor leg on the MHS 4x400-meter relay squad that grabbed a bronze medal. The team, which also featured Zach Ainsworth, Sebastian Valdez and Cooper Burgess, turned in a time of 3 minutes, 23.43 seconds.

In other action, Valon Vickers placed ninth in the discus throw with a mark of 124 feet, 3 inches.
