Buron Jones

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Buron James Jones passed away in Birmingham, Alabama. Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at True Life Missionary Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Internment will take place on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. 

Buron was born to Mr. and Mrs. Prince and Johnnie B. Jones, in Washington, Texas on September 13, 1945. Buron grew up in McGregor, Texas, and was the valedictorian of the George Washington Carver High School class of 1964.

After high school, he attended Prairie View A&M University where he majored in physics and minored in math. He was active in the ROTC, the Barons Of Innovation (BOI), and other organizations. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. 

Buron married his high school sweetheart, Johnnie Delores Boson in 1969. During his military service, they lived in Germany for several years. Upon their return from Germany, Buron was honorably discharged from the Army, and he and Johnnie settled in Houston, Texas, where he worked for Gulf Oil. While there, he attended Lee College in Baytown, Texas, and received a degree in Business. Buron and Johnnie had four children: Carmen Diane (deceased), twins, Bart Jermon and Bert Jermaine, and Brion Jason Jones. Buron was later hired by US Steel as a laboratory manager. US Steel transferred Buron and his family to Birmingham, Alabama, in 1986, where he worked until his retirement in 2009.

Buron and his family joined True Life Missionary Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, where he became an ordained deacon and served in several other roles.

Buron enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, a skilled dominoes player, and an active member of several bowling teams. Buron Jones was also a proud alum of both George Washington Carver High School and Prairie View A&M University, attending several reunions, including the 50th anniversary of his graduation from Prairie View, where he received his gold jacket. 

Buron Jones leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 55 years, Johnnie Delores Jones; sons, Bart, Bert (Danielle), and Jason; siblings, Prince Jones, Jr. (Debra), Aurelia Taylor, Raydell Ewing, Percy Jones, and Brenda Jones; sister-in-law, Jadie Pryor-Caldwell (Vacal); brother-in-law, Michael Boson (Sarah); brother-in-law, Joseph Williams, Sr.; sister-in-law, Marie Allocca Neal and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
