Mary Warrington

Mary Warrington of McGregor, a retired teacher, died on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022. Mrs. Warrington was born in Belton on Sept. 9, 1919 to Boone and Martha Carnes Porter. She graduated with honors from Belton High School and Texas Christian University.

In 1940, she married Carl Warrington of Hillsboro, who would become a longtime Central Texas coach and high school principal. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Mrs. Warrington retired from teaching in 1976 having spent most of her career in McGregor ISD and Connally ISD in Waco. She was active in the McGregor United Methodist Church until her mid-90s. She enjoyed volunteer activities including many years with Meals on Wheels and at Westview Manor. She was a talented musician who played the piano and was still playing at age 102.

She is survived by one son, Tom Warrington and wife Peggy of Greeley, Colorado; one daughter, Martha Warrington of Taylor; one grandson, Scott Warrington of Bayfield, Colorado; one granddaughter, Julie Hill and husband, Brett, of Greeley, Colorado; and two great-grandchildren, Paige and Wyatt Hill of Greeley. She is also survived by four nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one niece.

Mrs. Warrington was dearly loved by her family and friends. We will remember her funny stories, her homemade bread, pies, and cookies, and her generosity of spirit.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be a private inurnment. The family is planning a brief graveside service in the spring or early summer. Friends are welcome to join us for that service. The date and time will be announced.
